We had such a great time visiting bear moutain!!! We took a stroll around the lake. Went to visit the zoo and my two year old son had a blast on the merry go round!!! This place is a gorgeous place to visit with the family!!! We took our father in law when he came to visit from Texas and he was amazed at the beautiful scenery!!! We have picnicked here and there was plenty of room for our son to run around and play!!! Again lots of fun and beautiful!

Spectacular Views and a lot to offer

First of all, the views are amazing. It's quite a drive for us, but definitely worth it. There's a lot to offer too, so families or couples have plenty.

Family Favorite

I take the kids here every year..Parking/Admission price is reasonable. The "zoo" while small is just the right size for my little ones. Pack a picnic lunch, they have plenty of tables along the water. It is Beautiful. On the opposite side of the zoo they have a big playground and paddle boats that can be rented for a small fee. The pool is also very nice and the fee is reasonable but the pool bathrooms/locker room is disgusting. Take a ride on the carousel..All in all It is a great place for a day trip with the family.

Education, fun, and beauty!

  5 of 5

What a wonderful place to bring your family! We visited as a group with my sons boy scout pack in October and were amazed at what a gem we had missed for all these years! Although small the Trailside zoo is such an education for children and adults! We learned so much about not only the animals of our area but also history about our area as well! Highly recommended for all!

beautiful

I have two small children and we just love this park. The zoo is perfect for little ones. All local animals. It is nice to see the animals from our back yard, up close and personal. Great place for a walk and picnic. Be sure to stop by the ice cream shop and take a ride or two on the carousel! (At $1 a ride, take lots of rides!)

Fun family day out

Great place to meet for a day out. The kids love the zoo and a picnic by the lake is a lot of fun! Definitely bring a stroller if you have little ones, it's a short hike from the parking lot to the zoo.

Great place to spend the day.

I brought my almost 3 year old son to walk around and check out the zoo. We had such a good time. I also loved that I was supporting a local zoo who are helping local animals. The pond was great as my son called out to the boats on the water. We also rode the old carousel. Once it's warm out again we will be back again.

Bear Mountain 1915 Cafe

  5 of 5

Bear Mountain holds a very special place in our hearts since we had our wedding reception there in 2001. The Inn remained closed for many years for renovations and is finally open again so for our anniversary this year we got a sitter and had lunch at the 1915 Cafe. The food was excellent and so was the service. We both got a Margarita which were very good. My husband got a burger and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered a cobb salad which was very fresh and tasty. We can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu!

Great place to spend a day with the family!

We went on a tour of the zoo on Monday and the kids had a great time. Seeing animals indigenous to our area and learning about the conservation and rehabilitation efforts of the zoo was enlightening and educational. The beautiful views of the river and the bridge made the day even more special

Bear Mountain - Beautiful During Every Season

  4 of 5

We have been visiting Bear Mountain since my son was a baby. When he was still in a stroller, we used to walk him around Hessian Lake when the weather was nice. We now take both of our children boating on the lake and we visit the zoo (that houses injured local animals including deer, bear, coyotes, snakes, owls, etc.). We also take them on the carousel year round. In the spring we take them to breakfast with the Easter Bunny and in the winter we take them to breakfast with Santa at the newly renovated Bear Mountain Inn (that is absolutely beautiful). I also go myself occasionally to the spa (which, is divine)! Other fun things to do are ice skating and my kids love the playground.

So much to do and see

  5 of 5

If you haven't been to Bear Mountain State Park, go now. There is so much to do and see there all year round. Ice skating, fishing, hiking, swimming, picnicking, playground, paddle boats, the carousel and the zoo. Bring a water bottle because the zoo is quite a walk from the main parking lot. The inn and restaurant have reopened and are beautiful inside. Snack bars are open in the summer and actually sell charcoal grills as there are no longer permanent ones in the park but thr prices are really high. The zoo is a small donation and there are fees for parking, pool and paddle boats. This is definitely a great place to spend a day

Fun year-round

  5 of 5

During the warmer months we enjoy the zoo, hiking, paddle boats and fishing. The views of the Hudson are great from right near the river and from Perkins Memorial Drive. Oktoberfest is always fun in the fall, the carousel is great for the kids and the ice rink is nice, too.

We Love visiting bear mountain for year round fun. In the spring we enjoy walking the lake and visiting the zoo. In the summer they have paddle boats and a little playground.
